Hello there!

I am Ryan Whitney.

I am here to share my paintings with the world and perhaps sell a couple. I live on Capitol Hill in Seattle, WA and this is where most of my paintings are lovingly formed with a few brushes, canvases, and paints. A few were made as gifts and have homes on other's walls, but many are with me today, in part because I had trouble with the idea of parting with them. I am trying very hard to learn to give my labor away and I am told that money helps with that.

On a more personal level, I am a gay man, which so far has not seemed to come through in my work. I am a progressive political activist, which comes through occasionally. I am a nerd in the academic sense of the word and a geek in the sci-fi/fantasy fan sort of way. I love to learn and I am often watching educational Youtube or listening to an audio-book while I paint. I was raised in an evangelical Christian home, but I am now a secular humanist and do not have a belief in God. I like the idea of making social commentary and societal critique through my painting, but have not yet put any of those many ideas to canvas. I would love to have more free time to paint and make many of my ideas become a reality.
